Institute for Integrated Management of Material Fluxes and of Resources (UNU-FLORES)
The isolated consideration of individual resources often leads to „silo thinking“: interactions and synergies between water, soil, energy, and biodiversity are overlooked. The resource nexus approach counteracts this by promoting integrated, cross-sectoral solutions. UNU-FLORES operates in Dresden and in Weißwasser in Lusatia. The REPOINT Laboratory — Resource Nexus for Post-Mining Inclusive Transition — is located in the heart of the Lusatian open-cast mining areas.
- Research and Innovation Development: Investigating whether the consequences of mining can be seen as opportunities or burdens within the resource nexus framework.
- Education and Capacity Development: Training workshops for knowledge transfer for land use decisions that meet community needs and conserve resources.
- Outreach, Advocacy and Impact: Promoting sustainable transformations through the repurposing of post-mining landscapes into valuable common goods.
